“Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” Matthew 24:43-44(NLT)
I lost a senior colleague and friend yesterday. Two days ago, we were at a meeting and he was looking just fine, very much alive and vibrant as usual, with no sign of sickness whatsoever. He went to bed at night, and according to the story I heard, suffered a heart attack at the early hours of the next morning and that was it – he was gone to return no more! The news came as a rude shock but also as a sharp awakening, “We don’t have all the time in the world!”
No one (in most cases) prays or prepares for death, especially if one is yet in the prime of one’s life. However, the hard truth is that death can come and snatch at will, without making any prior announcement. Alright, let’s agree that, according to the scripture (1Corinthians 15:51), we will not all die (you and I inclusive, amen) but we will be transformed – at RAPTURE – which will also happen without prior notice! Invariably, whether death (even if we say, “God forbid”) or rapture (and we say, “Yes Lord”), we have no knowledge of the time, hence the need to be PREPARED.
The scripture above is self explanatory and with all the end-time signs around us, there is no better time than now for us to be on the watch – constantly. Who knew, perhaps my senior colleague had something he could have put in place two days ago, something that counted towards eternity, but postponed till yesterday, hoping to see another light of day….if only he knew…. I do not know, I am only imagining, and I pray sincerely, that he was met prepared. (Deep sigh)
This is not meant to sound as a scary tale and as the Lord lives, our lives shall not be cut short (amen). But if not death, then rapture….and we do not know when….we do know, however, that the countdown is getting lower everyday…..and it’s high time we put our house in order!
Jesus is LORD!
