“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every PURPOSE under the heaven…” Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV – emphasis mine)
From it’s many definitions, ‘Purpose’ could mean ‘reason (for doing something)’. It therefore suffices to say that every action has a purpose; everything also has a purpose. For instance, a manufacturer has a purpose for his/her products. There is a reason for the manufacture of that product and that reason definitely shapes a lot of things that eventually culminate into the final outcome of the product. Also, whenever someone does or says something, whenever someone puts up an action or reaction, there is always a reason behind it. People don’t just act without a reason—-there is always a reason (no matter how inconsequential it may be)—-there is always a ‘why’.
In research, when writing a research paper/proposal/thesis, it is expedient to state your general objective/purpose (which could be translated as general or overall reason for the research) and specific objectives (you’re expected to provide specific reasons for the research). Now, God, who is our ‘manufacturer’ has a reason (purpose) for doing so and His general reason was established in Genesis 1:26 – we are created to rule and have dominion. However, for each of us, there are specific reasons. As regards Jeremiah, for instance, God’s specific reason was established in Jeremiah 1:5 – God specifically set him apart and ordained him to be a prophet. Again, in research, after stating the objectives, you have to show how you intend to achieve those objectives. In other words, everything you do in the course of the research, everything you put in place, is driving towards the achievement of those same objectives. What this simply translates to is that every of your action as regards the research has a purpose – the achievement of a greater purpose!
What I’m getting at is that God has general and specific purposes for each of us, but beyond that, He puts other things in place for these purposes to be achieved. What am I saying? It’s simple, really, “There is a reason for everything that’s happening to/around you.” There is a reason for that situation. There is a reason for that circumstance. Sometimes, you experience the good, the bad, and the ugly, but I want you to know that there is a reason!
“This is what the LORD says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:10-11 (NLT)
“This is GOD’s Word on the subject: “As soon as Babylon’s seventy years are up and not a day before, I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” Jeremiah 29:10-11 (MSG)
Many are quite familiar with Jeremiah 29:11, but sometimes, don’t we just think within ourselves, “Okay, if God’s plans for me are good, why am I then in this or that situation? Why is this or that happening to me? I don’t see anything good here, abeg!” Well, take a closer look at verse 10…..there is a purpose and every purpose has a time (Ecclesiastes 3:1). I tell you, there is a reason! When you take a look at Jesus, don’t you just wonder why He made a ‘mistake’ of choosing Judas Iscariot as one of His disciples? I mean, that guy stabbed Him right in the back and he even did that to His face! But you and I know that if Judas was not in the picture, God’s salvation plan would not have been achieved. There was a reason, even for Judas the betrayer!
Many things might be contrary to what you look forward to but I have good news for you, “God causes EVERYTHING to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His PURPOSE for them.” Romans 8:28 (NLT – emphasis mine). Even that seemingly ugly situation has a reason and when it is time, when it has served its purpose, everything will work out well as planned by God. Keep the flag flying, things are working out for your good. Amen.
