This morning, I was on my way to prison – yes, you heard me, Kirikiri Medium Security Prison??
Okay, hold it right there, before you think too far…
Yes, I was on my way to Kirikiri, this first day of a new month, new quarter, and second half of the year; but I was headed there for a different purpose (other than what naturally pops to mind when the word ‘prison’ is mentioned). I was on a mission, to attend the matriculation ceremony of the 6th set of inmates drafted into a “Life Recovery Pre-Release Empowerment Programme” tagged THE ONESIMUS PROJECT. Four partners are involved in this project: Nigerian Prisons Service – houses and oversees inmates; PFN (Prisons Fellowship of Nigeria) – provides spiritual support and guidance for inmates; SMEDAN (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria) – organizes entrepreneurial & vocational trainings for inmates (they will need these skills when they get out); and Counselling Unit/Psychology Department of COVENANT UNIVERSITY – provides psycho-education, psychological mentoring and evaluation for inmates. I must say that I am excited to be a part of the project. It is all about affecting lives and making positive impact.
So, that brings me to my musing. It’s a new season, the second half of the year, a new opportunity. When you hear second half, you can easily think of football. Sometimes, the first half does not go the way the players desire. However, the second half provides another opportunity to revitalize, perform better, and finish strong.
I think same principle can be applied to the last half of this year. Unlike prison inmates who are constrained by prison walls, you and I have the freedom to make the most of this second half. What are you gonna do with this privilege?
I sincerely pray that the latter half of this year shall be greater and better for you. Amen.
Jesus is LORD!
