“B’ewure ba b’oju weyin, a f’epe f’elepe…” (Yoruba Adage)
Loose Translation: “If a cursed goat looks back, it’ll return curse to sender.”
I am quite familiar with the adage, but I have never really given its meaning a deep thought. In fact, I never really understood its deep meaning until few days ago when I watched a program and the presenter asked the guest to explain ‘why you don’t curse a goat’ (in Yorubaland). It is supposedly believed that if you curse a goat, and it turns to face you, it’ll return the curse. In other words, if anyone curses a goat, the person is simply cursing himself/herself…period!
Hear…..Hear! God said to Abraham (and by extension, his offspring – you and I) “I will bless those who bless you and CURSE THOSE WHO CURSE YOU” (Genesis 12:3a; TLB – emphasis mine). Hear this too, “Whoever digs a pit for others will fall into it. Whoever tries to roll a boulder down on others will be crushed by it [have it turn back on them]” (Proverbs 26:27; EXB).
These scriptures are explicit! God is on your side, therefore, any mischief devised against you returns to orchestrator. That is what my people call, “back to sender!” If God is for you, then no one can be against you (Romans 8:31) and that is why no weapon formed against you can prosper (Isaiah 54:17). You are God’s and He’s got your back, therefore, “no curse can touch Jacob (insert your name); no magic has any power against Israel (insert your name).” Numbers 23:23a; NLT
As this year glides by and a new year rolls in, arm yourself with these quiet assurances from the word of God. Your life and destiny are in His hands and NO ONE can thwart His good plans for you. Whatever the enemy is stewing and brewing against you goes back to him and his cohorts. That is the word of the Lord. Peace.
