Tribe of Judah

The other day, I had a chat with an elderly family friend and our conversation centered around money/wealth/riches and contentment. He made an intriguing statement. He said, “I don’t know about other people bearing this name (he mentioned his family name) elsewhere, but in my family it is a taboo to engage in money ritual of any sort.” He claimed that the law had been established since generations past and it had passed from generation to generation; fathers telling their children the consequence of engaging in money ritual – madness within seven days! Interesting!!!

It is a known fact that blessings and curses pass from generation to generation; family after family, clan after clan. Bible patriarchs were known to bless their children (or curse them as the case may be) and these pronouncements extend for generations untold.

When Israel (Jacob) was about to die, he made pronouncements upon his children, the twelve tribes, and Judah, the fourth tribe in chronological order, was the first to receive blessings. Isn’t it a wonder and a privilege, that by virtue of adoption, which has made us joint heirs with Jesus Christ, who is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, we are also recipients of the age-long generational blessings pronounced on the tribe of Judah. Alleluia!

“Judah, your brothers will praise you. You will grasp your enemies by the neck. All your relatives will bow before you. Judah, my son, is a young lion that has finished eating its prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor. He ties his foal to a grapevine, the colt of his donkey to a choice vine. He washes his clothes in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth are whiter than milk.” Genesis 49:8-12 (NLT)

The pronouncements in these verses depict royalty, honour, strength, rulership, wealth, abundance, affluence, and the likes. Friend, be sure of this one thing: “By reason of your association with the Lord Jesus Christ, you are a part of the tribe of Judah, and as such, a partaker in his generational blessings.” Lay hold of these blessings and appropriate them to your life.
