“When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “THIS IS A DESERTED PLACE, AND THE HOUR IS ALREADY LATE. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.” Matthew 14:15-21 (NKJV – Emphasis mine).
~ “You know you need a change of status; everyone has left you behind and moved ahead. You’re the only one left here. As a matter of fact, you won’t get what you’re looking for in this lonely and deserted place!”
~ “How long will you stay this way? Time is running out, in fact, time ran out on you like last year. Everyone is gaining speed and you’re the only one still on this same spot. It’s already late!”
Are those words familiar? Do people (friend, foe, relative, colleague, etc) say these words (or similar) to you? Does the devil drum them into your ears perpetually? Have you been made to feel you were born in the wrong century, like you’re the odd one out? Has your attention been drawn to the clock’s ticktock? Perhaps you’ve been told to go find other alternatives! Well, you’re not alone in your experience; the multitude of people with Jesus experienced same. They were in a place where there was no likelihood of having their need met; even if there was a remote likelihood, time had run out (according to the disciples), and it seemed like they would need to find other alternatives.
Hear this interesting part: Jesus said (and still saying), “You don’t need to go anywhere, you’re with me! There is provision for ALL who stay with me. Settle down with me, I will multiply the provision and you shall have more than enough.” (Paraphrase)
You know the rest of the story. You know how a seemingly hopeless situation, according to man’s calculation, turned into an eternal celebration (we can never forget the story of how Jesus fed the multitude). You know how Jesus moved the prevailing circumstance from ‘none’ to ‘running over’.
He is still the same Jesus; Lord over moments and times, Master of the universe! He is all you need to have all your needs met. No matter how bleak the situation, settle with Jesus. Stay with Him. Do not leave His presence for He will not send you away empty. He will fill you to overflowing, change your story, rewrite your history, and give you a glorious destiny.
