One Day

It was like every other day. Noah sat in the loft, having a ‘me time’ with God. Then God spoke to him, about the nearest future; what was to happen soon. “The earth will be flooded and everyone/everything will perish. You will build an ark to shelter your family during the flood,” God told Noah clearly.

Noah got to work. He began to build the ark, according to God’s instruction and specification. While building, people would have asked him about the task he suddenly embarked on and Noah would have told them what God told him; and I believe they would have scorned him – flooding was a very strange phenomenon, it had never happened in history! “Foolish man, how can you be so naive and believe such outrageous lies,” some would have mocked.

Year after year, Noah built the ark and waited for God’s signal – the fulfilment of His word, but it seemed a waste of time and energy, which would have only increased his mockery. Many would have called him all sorts of names. Some would have said, “Noah, if you still believe this fantasy of yours, then you have completely lost it!” Perhaps his in-laws even advised his wife, “Your husband is deluded for how many years now? When will you accept this for what it is and subject him to psychiatric evaluation?” It couldn’t have been an easy time for Noah, waiting endlessly and being the object of ridicule.

Then, ONE DAY, after several decades, the signal came – the fulfilment of God’s word! Noah and his family went into the ark and escaped the flood. God brought His word to pass!

You, like Noah, might have heard God’s word and waited long. You know that you know that God spoke His plans about you. You have the promise(s) of God but it’s taking decades and people around are already mocking you, openly or secretly. Even the devil is despising you, telling you how deluded you are for believing a fantasy. “Wake up, this is reality,” he says in a sinister voice.

Hear:

“But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!” Habakkuk 2:3 (TLB)

“God is not a man who lies, or a son of man who changes His mind. Does He speak and not act, or promise and not fulfil?” Numbers 23:19 (HCSB)

“The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness…” 2Peter 3:9a (AMP)
